REFUGEE NEWS

Immigration Enforcement

The most prominent immigration enforcement bill that passed is HB 1105. This legislation requires counties and local jurisdictions to take steps to apply to enter memorandums of understanding with federal authorities to enforce federal immigration laws. The bill also requires additional data collection and sharing between local law enforcement and the federal Department of Homeland Security, including information related to immigration status, local law enforcement communications with DHS, and a public online report of various data on foreign-born inmates. Lastly, the bill mandates universal compliance with ICE detainers.

Please feel encouraged to search for your district legislators and give them a call/email to speak your voice on the matter!
